Parsons Table research files, 1940-1952, (bulk 1960-1975).

The Parsons Table research files were assembled by the staff of the Kellen Design Archives to facilitate research into the origins of the table and the individuals involved in its design. Materials in the files come from various sources and may be useful in understanding the history of the table. The modernist table is characterized by straight lines and square legs that are the same width as the table top. The Parsons Table was reportedly designed at the Paris Ateliers, the precursor to Parsons Paris, sometime in the 1920s or 1930s. French designer Jean-Michel Frank (1895-1941) is often identified as the creator of the table. Other sources hypothesize it evolved as a classroom project at the Ateliers, where Frank served as a critic.
